Chapter 5&6 Q&A
• Describe the effect of rain on the plot.
-It reflects the characters feelings. Especially Gatsby. When he is nervous and sad because of Daisy, it rained but when he got ok and happy, the rain stopped.
• Think of a time when you
dreamed of getting something (an object, an award, a job, even a
boyfriend/girlfriend). How can the attainment of the goal be less satisfying
than the pursuit of the goal? Is it worth it in the end?
-I once dreamed to get all A and really did my best to achieve it.i thought when i get As for all of my subjects, i will be the happiest person in my life. However after i did it, i had to worry that if i would get a B for any of my subjects. So i think it was better and happier when i was working to get all A.
After that, i started to think it is obious and not thank the fact that my grades are high.
• Gatsby finally met with Daisy, yet was afraid to talk to her at first.
Why?
-Because he was afraid if Daisy would have been changed to another person that he doesn't know and also i think he worried if Daisy wouldn't like to be with him. (also nervous)
• Speculate why Gatsby, now that he is with Daisy, is described as
“running down like an over-wound clock” (93).
-Because Gatsby was so nervous and wanted to meet Daisy. he had been waiting her for 5 years. and now he met her and he was so relaxed and happy that his nervousness? is being released.
• Daisy cries into a pile
of Gatsby’s shirts during a tour of his house. Why is she crying?
-Because she thought that while she was having a hard time with Tom, Gatsby-who she left- was living a very wealthy life. So she regrets it.
• More of Gatsby’s past is revealed in this chapter. It is effective that the truth is
revealed after we have seen Gatsby’s present wealthy lifestyle, for it shows how
