The Great Gatsby
GREAT GATSBY CLOSING NOTES
The Novel as a Whole
1. Discuss Nick Caraway’s character. How reliable is he as a narrator? What aspects of his character make him an effective narrator?
-Nick is dishonest. He says that he says the truth always but he doesn't. He lies alot and pretends to be in love with Jordan Barker. He is not a realiable narrator. The dishonesty makes him an effective narrator because he makes the readers think if he is saying the truth or lieing.
2. Discuss the title of the book. In what way is Gatsby “great?”
-Gatsby was a man that believed in true love and knew how to earn money. However, even he was a wonderful money maker, he wasn't corrupted. he was innocent and pure in som way.
3. Compare and contrast the character of Daisy and Myrtle Wilson?
Daisy and Myrtle were effective women who could ear men love easily. However, Daisy knew how to use boys and Myrtle didn't. She was so into Tom and gave him the feeling that she would be with him whatever he does. In the other hand, Daisy never makes the boys sure that she loves her or not.
4. Discuss the relationship between Nick and Jordan Baker. How does it reflect, if at all, on the story of Gatsby and Daisy?
-Nick and Jordan were lovers but they met eachother for other reasons. They didn't met because they were in love. They had reasons that were not romantic. However Gatsby and Daisy met because they loved each other. There was no reason neither than that. That was the difference between Nock&Jordan and Gatsby&Daisy.
5. Compare the valley of ashes with that of East Egg and West Egg.
-Vally of ashes had nothing. It wasn't fancy at all and even a bvit sad to look at. When you see it, you think of loniness and an empty space. However, the east edd and west edd was a place for wealthy people. The west egg had people who were wealthy in the past as well. Or born wealthy. In the other hand, people in the west egg were new rich people. They worked for their wealth and became rich.
6. Gatsby’s tragedy is that he chooses the wrong dream (Daisy). Has he been corrupted by society? Or is his choice an indication that he is part of the corruption?
-No, he wasn't corrupted. He was pure man that was so in love with a girl. He loved her so much that he couldn't even think that the girl was using him.
